Dr. Chang is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point New York in 1978 and received his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree (D.O.) at Midwestern University/Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1991. He served over 20 years as both line officer and an orthopedic surgeon in the Army. Dr. Chang was also an intern class president at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. from 1991-1992 and received his orthopedic training at the renowned Brook Army Medical Center and Institute for Surgical Research in San Antonio, Texas. His military experience has led to unique experiences in overseas medicine, as well as with mass casualty situations.
From 2002-2010, Dr. Chang was an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at one of the premier orthopedic programs in the world, The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. During that time, Dr. Chang also served as chief of orthopedics at one of the largest veterans hospitals in the United States specializing in joint reconstruction and sports medicine. He was also one of the principal orthopedic trauma specialists at a Level I Trauma Center.
Board-certified from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, he is actively involved in several specialty orthopedic organizations, such as the Orthopedic Trauma Association, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the Clinical Orthopaedic Society and the Society for Military Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Massachusetts Orthopaedic Association, the Alamo Orthopaedic Society and the Massachusetts Medical Society.
Dr. Chang prides himself on being a caring, understanding and experienced physician who believes in a rational approach to the long-term welfare of patients. He also welcomes second opinions. He is an avid outdoorsman and has been a full-certified professional ski instructor for almost 40 years and was very involved in the National Ski Patrol. He and his wife, Mary, have four children and live in Boxford, Massachusetts.
